PROGRAMMING Urban Shad Watch 2007

Toast the shad, Earth Day and the vast improvements in our rivers with a tall glass of chilled tap water at the FWWIC. The return of the shad to the Schuylkill and the Delaware is a critical indicator of the river’s cleanliness. Each spring the shad come home to the Schuylkill to spawn. PWD Flower Show Exhibit

FWWIC Home Again

On June 17 Philadelphia's favorite and best-known fisherman regained his familiar perch on the Schuylkill River Esplanade, a part of the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center. The cast-metal fisherman again sits atop a rock a few feet from the river, his home since the exhibit was commissioned in 1990. In September, 1999, a huge tree trunk, swept downstream by the fierce winds and raging waters of Hurricane Floyd, tore the fisherman from his rocky perch and deposited him in the river...Continue Story »

RESTORATION Photo Album

The restoration and preservation of the Fairmount Water Works has been the dedicated focus of the Fairmount Park Comission. During the past ten years the buildings have received extensive architectural, archeological and interpretive attention.
